Our topic for exploration is what is, for me, the most fundamental and inspiring reason for the Sufi path: Longing!
This has always been in the background of the teachings that we have tasted, so now, let’s bring it to the surface and dance with it.
Rumi does not treat longing as weakness. He treats it as proof of divine attraction.
“The minute I heard my first love story,
I started looking for You, not knowing
how blind that was.
Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere.
They’re in each other all along.”
Hazrat is more precise, less ecstatic in tone, but metaphysically clear.
“The longing for God is the proof that one belongs to God.”
He repeatedly insists: the desire for God is not manufactured by the ego. It is God desiring Himself through you.
